This is a 16-hour training designed to provide you with the basic skills for remote site medical care. The WFA course is hands-on and experiential, providing you with the skills and confidence needed for making remote medical care decisions. The Venturing course is designed specifically for a high-school aged audience. Intended Audience Wilderness First Aid courses are ideal for outdoor recreation enthusiasts, camp staff, remote site workers, and travelers who either work or play away from definitive medical facilities and support. Skills & Topics Taught Based on recommendations from the Wilderness Medical Society and evidence-based research, our curriculum focuses on making sound decisions regarding patient evacuation and covers skills for extended care. View a full Wilderness First Aid Course Schedule. Course Format The Wilderness First Aid class is typically a fast paced two day course, with 8 hours of instruction each day. The course is based on short lectures, labs, and realistic practice scenarios. Students are provided with ample opportunity to master the central concepts and skills of wilderness medicine and the confidence to use it in a real setting. Instructors Our instructors, who work professionally as Wilderness Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics, teach the practical and decision-making skills that are unique to remote medicine. Certifications The Wilderness First Aid certification by Remote Medical International is valid for 2 years and is recognized world-wide by groups such as the American Mountain Guides Association, the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, the US Government, as well as major outdoor programs.

This Wilderness First Aid course is open to Mountaineers youth ages 14-20. If spots remain, they will open to adults ages 21+ on January 24, 2014.
