Mountaineer Killed in Accident on Lewis Peak

We are very sad to report that our community lost one of our own on Saturday. A skier and climber, Franklin Bradshaw climbed Lewis Peak on Saturday. After summitting, Franklin was trying to get out of the wind when a cornice broke beneath him. The cornice debris field ran a full 2,000 feet before coming to rest well down the approach valley.

Our condolences are with Franklin's friends and family, and especially his climbing partner. We would like to extend a special thanks for his years of volunteerism with The Mountaineers. We have been hearing from many members throughout the day who would like to express their sadness over his passing, and gratitude to Franklin for sharing his love for the mountains with our community.

KOMO News has published a short article on the accident here. A trip report is on NW Hikers.

UPDATE: The Everett Herald has published a well-done and inclusive write-up of Franklin. You can read it here.
