Winter Scramble - Hex Mountain Loop
It was fun doing this as a loop. Probably takes a little longer, but certainly more interesting.

A Sno-Park Pass is supposedly needed to park at the trailhead, but we parked in a pullout off the road and did not see any sign saying one was needed there. Our route going clockwise.
Our group of 9 started off at about 9:15am. We left the ice axes and helmets behind. Although most wore Microspikes, it was fine without them. Once starting up the ridge it got a little breezy occasionally and the snow was firm enough to continue without snowshoes.
Looking back towards Cle Elum Lake where the clouds are starting to disperse.
Although we put on snowshoes right before reaching the summit (because we had stopped below to eat lunch in order to avoid being blasted by gusts on the summit,) we could easily have made it without them. The last few steps before reaching the summit.A view from the summit looking NE.
Looking at Hex S Peak and our descent route.Beautiful views with occasional gusts of wind as we descend S Hex.Cle Elum Lake in full view. Lots of ski tracks here too.Lots of different tracks as we get lower including snowmobile tracks. After an easy crossing of Newport Creek @ 2600' we're soon back on our ascent track and then back at our cars. What a great group!
