First Aid Coordinator

The holder of this badge has been approved by their branch’s First Aid Committee to serve as administrative leader for First Aid classes offered by the committee.

SCOPE - WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?

First Aid Coordinators serve as administrative leaders for Mountaineers First Aid classes. They work with students, instructors, facility managers, First Aid committees, and other First Aid Coordinators as needed before, during, and after First Aid classes to ensure that the classes run smoothly.

The role of First Aid Coordinator does not include instruction. First Aid Coordinators per se do not teach First Aid. However, the same individual can serve in multiple roles as both instructor and coordinator for a class if approved to do so by the committee.

The role of First Aid Coordinator does not include the scheduling and creation of new First Aid classes nor does it include working with external organizations to hire third party instructors or negotiate contracts.

EXPERIENCE, PREREQUISITES, AND TRAINING NEEDED

A First Aid Coordinator must be organized, self driven, and have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency at using the features of the Mountaineers website relevant to manage courses and course rosters.
  • Proficiency at using whatever additional planning and coordination tools used by the committee to manage their classes (e.g. spreadsheets).
  • Have any training and credentials necessary to ensure that the training facility is available to instructors and students as needed, and that the facility is configured as needed for the class (tables and chairs, A/V resources, lighting, etc)
