The trail is well packed down. Those who chose Microspikes did just fine. Snowshoes were needed if going off trail even for a short way. The chief hazard is that the pond is not completely frozen over. We had no intention of leaving the trail. But we did see someone walking their dog across the ice.
We originally intended to go to Wenatchee Crest. But with a wind chill factor of -6 degrees predicted, a ridge didn't seem a good place to be. We were all glad of the choice to go to Gold Creek Pond instead. The views were crystal clear. It was cold when we first got there, but as the sun rose higher in the sky, we were quite comfortable. I had thought about delaying the start time, but was afraid someone wouldn't get the message and be waiting for us. So I stuck with the original meet time and place.
The views were fantastic and we were enjoying ourselves. So when we completed circling the pond clockwise, we took a group vote to circle again counter clockwise. Everyone had appropriate gear for freezing temperatures and a great attitude. It was a beautiful day and a lot of fun.
