Day Hike - Middle Fork Snoqualmie River

Snow free, gentle incline, no hazards.

  • The trail is in good condition, overall. There are a few old blowdowns from previous seasons, one of the bridges is missing most of a hand rail, but overall this trail was easily completed in trail runners today (we were passed by many trail runners, as a matter of fact).

Even though it was 32-34 degrees this morning at 7:40 AM, with a bit of frost on the road in, as soon as we prepped to hike, it was obvious we would be nice and warm today. The insulation of the trees and being in the lee of the prevailing weather patterns meant that we were soon making clothing adjustments. It was very enjoyable to be in the lush, green moss, but staying nice and dry both of our feet and our heads today.

Marie had just completed some naturalist hikes, so she stopped us a few times to point out interesting plants and showed us the hoar frost popping up among the green plants.

We made quick work of arriving at the Dingford Creek bridge, 2 hrs and 45 minutes. We then opted to return a short way to the campground just to the west for a lunch break. Comparing gear and clothing notes, enjoying the luxury of time, we stayed until our cold hand got us back up and moving again.

2 hours back down the trail, including one seated snack break along the way and we were back at the cars, having beaten the forecasted incoming weather system.

Driving out along the road, I could see Teneriffe and Si enveloped in cold fog and thought, what a nice, dry, warm hike we enjoyed today!
