Editorial Intern
This internship is only open to students currently enrolled in college. We will bring on one intern per year.
Winter Internship Period
January through April (an eleven-week period within this timeframe)

Internship Details
Reporting to the senior editor, you will assist with a variety of tasks related to acquisitions, editorial, and production, including (but not limited to):
- reviewing unsolicited proposals and manuscripts
- evaluating and researching other potential projects as assigned by acquisitions editors
- assisting project editors with editing and production tasks
- observing seasonal launch and titling meetings and acquisitions meetings
- additional tasks to be determined by company needs and intern’s interest and skills.
Interns must be available 10 to 20 hours per week for the eleven-week duration of the internship. Interns are required to come into the office once a week for at least four hours, on either Monday or Wednesday. Some work may be performed remotely as the intern wishes.
If a student wishes to meet the needs for fulfillment of academic credit, we are happy to work with their academic institution to fill out related forms. It is the intern’s responsibility to initiate and drive that process.
This internship is restricted to students currently enrolled in college.
Qualifications
- Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week for a total of 110 hours.
- Must be over 18 years of age.
- Must have access to a reliable internet source and laptop.
- Must have strong writing skills and fluency in English.
Intern is responsible for their own transportation to and from our offices on Harbor Island (Note: There is no bus service to Harbor Island.)
While we understand that applicants will have simultaneous commitments such as school and employment, we will not consider applicants who are or will be enrolled in another publishing internship, or who will otherwise be employed by another book publisher at any point during their internship with Mountaineers Books.

Internship Periods & Application Deadlines
We offer one winter editorial internship per year. While start and end dates are flexible, an intern must commit to a total of three full months to fulfill the requirements of this internship. Work must take place within the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Pacific time.
If the intern fails to meet the requirements of the internship, Mountaineers Books retains the right to terminate the internship at any time, which may result in loss of the stipend.
Due to our small staff size (and how fun it is to work here!) Mountaineers Books rarely has job openings. Our office is a dog-friendly space.

Internship Details

- Must be familiar with social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok and Instagram.
- Preference for interns with video filming and editing skills as well as graphic design skills.
- Stipend of $1600 to be paid at successful completion of internship.
- Receive real-world experience in marketing and book publishing.
- Will finish internship with concrete work samples to add to your portfolio.
- 5 free books of your choice.

Established in 1960, Mountaineers Books is the nation's leading nonprofit independent publisher of outdoor recreation, lifestyle, and conservation books.
