Day Hike - Annette Lake

Quite a bit of smoke, but also lots of berries and good swimming.

  • Road to trailhead is fine, trail is in great shape.

We had a relaxed, enjoyable mid-week hike. There is a bit of smoke in the air, but this is not a "big views" hike anyway. The temperature was perfect, and we enjoyed the forest, especially the huckleberries, salmonberries and thimbleberries, which are all looking and tasting great. 

Took a long break at the lake: picked berries, some of us swam in the lake (not too cold!), and one group member brought his home-made fishing rod and caught a rainbow trout within a minute of casting! We had the lake mostly to ourselves, although we saw quite a few people going up as we were hiking down. 

Left cars at 9am, back by 2pm (with a lunch break of over an hour). Fun day out with a great group!
