Mountaineers Joins Outdoor Alliance

The Mountaineers is excited to announce that we have officially become a member of the Outdoor Alliance, a Washington, D.C. conservation and recreation nonprofit. Outdoor Alliance (OA) provides a collective voice for the outdoor recreation community to advocate for stronger protections for public lands and waters.

The Outdoor Alliance engages in conservation work because the outdoor recreation community has a direct and intensely personal stake in the conservation of our public lands. We are often the first to notice—and care—when something is wrong in our outdoor landscapes, and we are highly motivated to protect these places and the experiences they offer. Outdoor Alliance unites this community in order to protect our public lands and ensure that they are managed in a way that embraces the human-powered experience. Our collective goal is to protect, enhance, and promote the outdoor experience.

OA Manage

OA Unify

Joining this organization means that The Mountaineers can amplify its voice on issues that affect you here in the Pacific Northwest, like trail maintenance, access, and permitting. OA works on both national and regional issues, including an upcoming campaign on the Mountains to Sound Greenway right here in Washington.

Here in Washington, we worked with OA to bring together regional conservation and recreation to bring together the Access Fund NW, American Alpine Club NW, American Whitewater NW, El Sendero Backcountry Ski and Snowshoe Club (Wenatchee), Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, The Mountaineers, Washington Climbers Coalition, and Washington Trails Association - all human-powered recreation organizations in Washington State - as a coalition on issues relating to recreation, access and conservation. As the group Washington Outdoor Alliance, we represent more than 34,000 members who recreate on public lands. Washington Outdoor Alliance weighs in on issues such as funding for State Parks, the 2014 Governor’s Taskforce on Outdoor Recreation, and the No Child Left Inside Initiative.

If you’re interested in learning more about our work on Mountains to Sound or getting involved, you can sign up for the Outdoor Alliance newsletter or manage your Mountaineers email preferences to receive our Conservation Currents emails monthly.
