Trip Report

Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - Suiattle River

Pleasant beginner's 13mile round trip backpacking along the Suiattle River to Canyon Creek campsite. Day trip extensions to walk further on south and north PCT trails.

  • Road rough but passable
  • The trail is well maintained and easy to walk on as it meanders along the river. Some logs down but manageable either by going over or under the tree.

There are many small water crossings and 2 that are a bit treacherous. Most of the participants changed into their water shoes to do the second wide creek. I imagine the water flow will lessen as the summer months progresses.IMG_4805.jpg

Follow the Suiattle Road to the end and do not follow the Google map direction or it will lead you to Green Mountain. The last 10 miles or so on the forest road is pretty rough with many deep potholes. It is doable but time consuming especially with a low clearance car. The parking area is large. You will need a Northwest Forest Pass or the Interagency Pass.

The trail has slight up and down for 6+ miles to Canyon Creek campsite with elevation gain of about 900 ft. It took our group with a leisurely pace of 2mph and breaks in between about 3 hours to the camp. The camp is next to the roaring river before the bridge.
