DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS
The holder of this badge has successfully completed our Racing Course and/or has demonstrated proficiency in the following skills:
- Able to function as a valued crew member during a sailboat race.
- Understands all three sails typically used in sailboat racing: Main, Genoa, and Spinnaker.
- Understands the Racing Rules of Sailing, and how they apply during a race.
- Prepared to assist in preparation for a race, both before the race and on the boat.
- Has an in-depth understanding of sail trim and boat speed.
- Has a basic understanding of upwind sailing, downwind sailing, and downwind sails.
- Understands basic personal gear requirements and safety practices encountered during races held in the Puget Sound area.
- Has a basic understanding of racing tactics and strategy, and how to apply them during a race. Has a basic understanding of the anatomy of a sailboat race, from prestart to finish.
- Understands what needs to be done at mark roundings; before, during, and after.
- Understands sail changes done while under sail.
WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?
Though not required to participate, those who have this badge can participate as a crew member on sailing trips. Learn more about these kinds of trips in the activity overview or search for upcoming activities.

EQUIVALENCY
This badge is only for course graduates. We do not offer equivalency because this badge is not a prerequisite requirement for any of our activities or other courses.
