We launched from Steilacoom boat launch (just below the ferry dock. Ample beach and easy launch at 10am / -0.1 tide. WSF does NOT want you paddling through the pilings if there is a ferry at the dock. We assembled on the water and called "Steilacoom ferry" on channel 14 . They were 30 minutes out from sailing so we crossed their stern and headed for the north point of Ketron. No landing on this private island, so we cut across to Anderson, north of Oro Bay. Crossing is about 2 nm.
Once in the bay, Jacob's Point is straight ahead, but it won't look like a peninsula from that angle. We headed towards the red and green buoys and landed on the beach looking out to the sound, hoping for views of the JBLM air show. Mucky with such a low tide but solid enough. 12pm
Didn't see as many planes as we hoped. Walked the trails accessed by stairs further west along the beach. Composting toilet was in great condition.
Left Anderson at 2pm and watched the USAF Thunderbirds do their thing as we paddled up the inside of Ketron.
Practiced a variety of rescues. Arrived back at Steilacoom about 4:30 pm. Called the ferry and held tight as they were just preparing to leave the dock. Tide was over 9'. No beach left and water inside the tunnel. We had to wait while a motor boater loaded his trailer and drove away. Good staging area for many boats in the lower parking area just before the boat ramp.
If the tide is high, there really is no room to pass when a truck is loading / unloading a trailer. And that can take awhile. GPS measured 10.2 nm.
Park at the pay lot at the same level as the ferry terminal. $12 for 10 hours, pay by app only. Looks like there may be street parking as well. Bathrooms available in the terminal.
