Evening virtual seminar on techniques & considerations for using a rope to assist an intimidated party member on scrambling terrain. Note: Skills checks are not possible during COVID crisis. Thus, this seminar is for info & learning only, and may not fully satisfy requirements for qualifying as a scramble leader.

This virtual seminar will focus on how to use a rope and a few other lightweight pieces of climbing gear while scrambling. This is the stand-alone seminar portion of the Scrambling Rope Techniques Workshop. It is intended for very experienced scramblers, climbers, and aspiring scramble leaders.

- Rope management differences in scrambling vs climbing

- Misc. techniques (hand line, traversing, water crossings)
To complete the full Scrambling Ropes Technique Workshop, you will also need to complete a separate skills check. Please contact the leader with any questions and information about upcoming opportunities to participate in a skills check.

Required Equipment
Computer with speaker, microphone, and camera, as well as connection to high-speed internet.
Participants should prepare by reviewing (or learning about):
> Knots (water, double fisherman, klemheist, prusik, girth hitch, bowline, rewoven Figure 8, Figure 8 on a bight, butterfly, munter hitch)
> Protected Downclimb technique, Arm rappel, Dulfersitz rappel
> Boot-axe belay, Carabiner-axe belay, Hip belay, Munter belay
> Deadman anchor in snow
