Seminar Description
Where do you begin to navigate the growing need for diversity, inclusion, and equity? In this session, we will explore one of the very first steps: moving beyond tolerance.
Participants will be invited to focus on their preferences and passion for the outdoors as they practice actively valuing "the other" and promoting positive dialogue around differences.
This session is designed for beginners and those looking for basic skills to put towards diversity, inclusion, and equity topics. Please note that this will addressed through a group activity that explores neutral outdoor based differences, rather than specific diversity areas.
Participants will not need to be on video, but will be expected to engage with the activities through chat and audio.
Katjarina "Katja" Hurt is an outdoorsy nerdette with a penchant for volunteering and trying to make the world a better place. Following a call to serve the community, Katja’s path has taken her from a career as a state probation officer to an instructor-trainer and crisis responder. She is a proud graduate of Gonzaga University (Go Zags!), an emergency services chaplain in two counties, and a 14-year member of the National Ski Patrol. In 2018, Katja founded the nonprofit Wilderness Chaplains, a nondenominational organization that brings crisis intervention, training, and support to wilderness first responders.
