This presentation journeys through the American past exploring factors that contributed to the low engagement of people of color in the outdoors. From massacres to freedom marches, the path that led us here is clear, and it's critical that we reframe the ways we look at these seemingly disparate pieces, as they comprise our current picture. Studies show the benefits of being in nature are many, and without access to safe outdoor engagement, marginalized groups that are already disproportionately less healthy than their white counterparts, face greater risk to full health and wellbeing. Together, we'll explore how each of us can facilitate change within our own spheres of influence so that we lessen the risks of perpetuating further harms and create the kind of changes we want to see in outdoor spaces!
Seminar Notes
This presentation will be presented in a lecture format but participants are encouraged to speak up throughout the presentation. Kriste will be interactive with prompting questions interspersed within lecture segments.
