Where We Go from Here: Building a Community of Belonging in the Outdoors - Online Classroom

Online webinar on how to establish safe shared spaces for communities to grow and flourish with Kriste Peoples. A Leadership Development Series presentation.

6:00-8:00pm PST via Zoom Meeting
Meeting link will be sent to registered attendees the day of the session.

Through the sharing of lived experience, group discussion, and facilitated exercises, this presentation explores the challenges and opportunities inherent in our attempt as leaders to create safe shared spaces for our clients and participants in the outdoors. Together, we’ll explore the leader’s role in establishing safe spaces. Where does our responsibility begin and end? How do we do it? But first, we’ll consider what safety means to us and how it might look different for others. We’ll also examine what community means. We may each belong to multiple communities, but does that membership guarantee a sense of belonging? Indeed, safe spaces, community, and belonging are little more than concepts unless we do the work to cultivate the shared meaning in them. This presentation builds on the theme of journeying toward equity and inclusion with the understanding that while our answers are neither comfortable, concrete, or easy, they’re entirely worth the ride!

Seminar Notes

This presentation will be presented in a lecture format but participants are encouraged to speak up throughout the presentation. Kriste will be interactive with prompting questions interspersed within lecture segments.
