Hidden Lake Lookout & Peak

Trip

Alpine Scramble - Hidden Lake Peak

While this is a fun scramble, the main attraction is the view into the core of the Cascade Pass group of peaks in the North Cascades. There's also a contact between two different geological formations, some wonderful scrambling on granite, and a potential side trip to a fire lookout on the lower peak!

  • Strenuous, Strenuous 3, Technical 3
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 9.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,900 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 7,008 ft
  • Pace: Moderate

Meeting Time: 9:00 a.m., Saturday, July 3, 2021.

Meeting Place: the Hidden Lake/Sibley Creek Trailhead.

Car Pooling: One good starting place is the "Green Lake"/65th & Ravenna Park'n'Ride on I-5 in North Seattle -- south end of north lot.  My co-leader and I will be meeting there at 6:30 a.m.  It's about a two-hour drive from Seattle to Marblemount; a little further to the TH.

Directions: You can take I-5 north to the exit for the North Cascade Highway (Hwy 20) near Burlington, WA, then take Hwy 20 east to Marblemount.  A slightly more interesting route is to leave I-5 at just north of Smokey Point, taking the exit for Hwy 530 and Arlington, then on to Darrington, and continuing north ofn530 to meet Hwy 20 at Rockport, thence east to Marblemount.  From SR-20 in Marblemount, turn onto Cascade River Road. Follow it east for 9.7 miles and then turn  left onto Forest Road 1540 (Sibley Creek Road). Drive 4.7 miles to the road's end and trailhead (3,600 ft).

This trip is pretty much pointless without the views, so we'll be keeping a close eye on the forecast!
