Drive along Amanda Park for about 13.5 miles, then arrive at a junction at the Quinault River Bridge. Continue right, proceeding about six miles to the road's end and the trailhead.

Day 1: Backpack 9 miles from the Graves Creek Trailhead to Pyrites Creek Campsite. We will set-up camp here for two nights.

Day 2: Day hike to Enchanted Valley (round-trip 8 miles) with optional extension into the valley towards the world’s largest Western Hemlock and Anderson Pass.

Day 3:  Return backpack to the Grave Creek Trailhead

This is a relaxed (but long distance!) beginner’s backpacking trip to give students the opportunity to try out their gear and apply the skills they've learned in the B3 course.

This is one of Washington State’s iconic backpacking trips, with a knockout-beautiful destination. This trip will include B3 students who will be learning new backpacking skills and trying out new gear. All Mountaineers members are welcome (and encouraged!) to join. We will hike together at a moderate pace (1.5-2mph), and take breaks for snacks, views, and pictures.

Leader permission is required for the trip. When requesting permission, please describe your recent backpacking, including distance and elevation gain, and confirm your comfort with a 3-day trip in possibly wet, muddy, and chilly trail conditions. Priority registration for students in Yates and Casey's mentor group prior to April 29. Other B3 students and Mountaineers members can request permission on April 29 or later. (Requests for leader permission submitted prior to registration opening date will not be accepted.)

Participants will each be responsible for the $16/person permit fee.
