I plan we will explore about 10 miles of groomed trails from the snopark including the Viking Loop Trail that is used for Nordic ski competitions. Conditions can vary depending snow, temperature and how recently the trails have been groomed. Grooming is normally scheduled on Wednesdays. The Viking Course involves hills!. This trip is classified as an N2 requiring the ability to herringbone up and use a wedge/snowplow position and wedge turns for descents.
This trip is not suitable as a first-time Nordic skiers, even if you have Alpine ski experience. Nordic Classic no-wax skis are recommended. It is also possible to skate ski. Please consult the leader if you wish to skate or use other types of ski.
You have the option to car pool from the Preston P&R; meeting at 8:45 am or meet us at Cabin Creek Snopark at 9.45 am. Email directions and other trip details will be provided two days before the trip once registration closes. All vehicles taken to the trailhead will require WA Snopark Permits with groomed slickers. Day passes cannot be purchased at this snopark. Taking everyone who signs up will be dependent on enough drivers with suitable vehicles for winter snow conditions volunteering.
