Now happening Sunday: come out to the Olympic Peninsula for a beautiful forest hike near Lake Crescent!
This is somewhat exploratory, since I have only gone in 7.5mi and 2250ft up on this trail, but I'm hoping we get the whole 20 miles this time!
The trail is fairly easy, with a few steep sections, unless you're not a fan of slippery bridges, washouts and creek crossings (bring extra socks!). The first Happy Lake Creek crossing at 7.5mi is on a funky log (see photo), but it's not hard to crawl or hump across. Beyond that, there are 2 more crossings that we won't know about 'til we get there.
Please bring trekking poles, and microspikes in case we hit snow that requires them.
You can go light on water if you want to bring a water filter. There is safe river access every 2mi or so. Please bring warm clothes and rain gear as well as the 10 essentials.
Leader permission required because of the length of the hike and areas of exposure. Prepare for a long day out - please don't make evening plans. Optional group dinner in Port Angeles on the way home.
7:30am Storm King Ranger Station. If people want to park in Port Angeles and carpool, I have space for parking.
