This is an extremely popluar hike this time of the year because the balsamroot, purple lupines and many other wildflowers are at their peak. Check out past posts of Dog Mtn on WA Trails reports. We should meet fewer crowds if we start our hike early. We will hike this as a loop, ascending via the more gradual and scenic eastern (but longer) route and descend via the steeper northern route. From the top, we should be able to see the Columbia River, Mt Adams, Mt Hood and Mt St Helens on a clear day. This route will be closer to 8 rather than 6 miles. The pace will be moderate with plenty of stops for picture taking. I would like everyone to be at the TH by 9:30am. Mark and I plan on camping at Beacon Rock State Park Friday night and maybe Saturday night. If the weather is extremely nice, we may hike Sunday too. ***This hike may be cancelled due to poor weather.
