Day Hike - Green River Trail
Let’s exercise soon after Thanksgiving! From Hogan Park on Russell Road in Kent we will hike along trails that follow both the west and east banks of the Green River. It’s part loop and part out and back and our turnaround place will be the Three Friend Fishing Hole: a 9 miles round trip route that is flat and mostly paved with some interesting sites along the way.

Location details, directions and full trip information will be emailed those who sign up once registration closes at 5pm on Nov. 24.
Please note: I had earlier posted this trip as 6 miles rounds trip. The correct total distance is 9 miles.
From Hogan Park on Russell Road in Kent we will hike south along the Green River Trail beside Riverbend golf course to the Meeker Street Bridge. Here we will cross the river and visit the Old Fishing Hole with its Salmon and Cedar totem pole. Then we will head north on Frager Rd. following the west riverbank to S. S.212th St where we will cross back onto the Green River Trail to arrive at our turnaround point: The Three Friends Fishing Hole. There is a shelter here with some benches and tables for our lunch stop and restrooms close by.
On our return leg we will take the Green River Trail south back to Hogan Park. There is a short diversion because of trail closure due to levy and salmon restoration work.
All the route will be flat and mainly paved. There are interesting features and some good views along the way. We will see some of the levee and salmon restoration work in progress. On the way we will pass Kent’s oldest surviving homestead from 1885.
Please be prepared to hike at an average moving speed of 2 mph overt the 9 miles with several short breaks along the way and a half-way lunch break.
COVID GUIDELINES:
We will follow the Healthy Washington plan and Mountaineers guidelines that apply on the date of the hike.
