Day Hike - Mount Walker

Conditioning hike for Kitsap climbing students and instructors.

  • Moderate
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 2,800 ft
  • Pace: 2 mph minimum

Hike starts at 7 AM. Please be at the trail head (gate on the road unless it is open) early enough to have yourself ready to start walking by that time. The trip is a go rain or shine.

Carpooling is a great idea. I plan to be at the trail head 20 minutes before the hike start time. I am coming from South Kitsap and will travel HWY 3 to cross the Hood Canal Bridge. I can pick up a couple of people along the way (Gas money donations are welcomed). Good meeting places are in Bremerton very near the HWY, North Viking Transit Center in Poulsbo, or the Visitor Center on Beaver Valley RD.

Priority will be given to people associated with the Kitsap branch. This is a good conditioner for Kitsap basic climbing students or anyone wanting to get in shape. Prepare to breath and sweat. I am planning these hikes every two weeks on Tuesday mornings. Push yourself harder by bringing more weight! :)

This is not a beginner hiker hike. You should be in relatively good shape to come on this one. The trail is pretty straight forward but it is steep and the pace will be pushed to make sure we all get a good workout! If you are new to hiking or just unsure of your ability please look for some of the other hikes geared to introduce you without the challenging pace.

FYI, I intend to be done with this hike by 10 AM at the latest. We will not be unsafe, so that is not to say we’ll be in a hurry when we shouldn’t be. It’s just to say that as long as all goes well, the plan is to be done by then.

If you have any questions or are unsure, please feel free to contact me.
