Day Hike - Rattlesnake Second Ledge

**Trip initially open to Lookouts and High Places Day Hiking Series students. Trip will open for registration to all Mountaineers 7 to 10 days prior to the hike date.** Enjoy this lovely forested trail with panoramic views of the valley and foothills. We will plan to take in the views from all three ledges on our way up and have our lunch at the upper ledge before beginning our descent.

  • Mileage: 5.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,459 ft
  • Pace: 2.0 mph

Meet at 9:45 AM in the parking lot  geared up and ready to hike.  A Discover Pass is required.  See Leader's Notes below for more information.

Since this is a weekday hike please allow extra time to arrive since there may be heavy work traffic. The  Freeways will be busier than on the weekend.

Vault toilets and porta-potties are available near the official trailhead, shortly after our hike begins.

We will hike this lovely trail which has been greatly improved by the WTA and others, passing through a mossy forest and steadily climbing to the three ledges.

The route has quite a bit of elevation gain, so hiking poles are useful.  Also, this is not a dog-friendly hike, so please do not bring your dog with you.

Although we will stop at the third ledge for our lunch break and hopefully enjoy some great views, this is not a nature walk or a bird watching hike, and thus we will attempt to maintain a pace of around 2.0 mph so that participants get a bit of a workout.

Per the WTA Website:  From I-90 take exit 32 for 436th Avenue SE. Turn right onto 436th Avenue SE, also signed as Cedar Falls Road SE. Proceed about four miles down the road to the Rattlesnake Lake parking lot on the right.  Note: If your GPS or mapping program directs you to 208th Ave SE in Hobart, beware that this is outdated information. This road used to access the Rattlesnake trailhead, but now dead ends 7 miles down the road.
