Day Hike - Stillwater Natural Area
We will bird along the trail at Stillwater Natural Area. Birds have started to breed, spring migrants have arrived and others might be passing through. This is a naturalist hike and will focus primarily on identifying birds and may also look at some plants. You can leave at noon or come with me if I go up on the hill above the valley to look for birds in the Douglas Fir forest along Stossel Creek Road. This road is dirt and bumpy but can be done in any car.

There may be some mud in a few places, but the walking should be good. Bring binoculars, a bird book, or the Merlin App on your phone. We will spend about 3 hours or so along the trail and may walk back to the River to see what we find. The first part of the field trip should end between 11 AM and Noon. I may head up into the forest above the valley in the afternoon to look for some other birds. On this, we might walk back to a pond along Stossel Creek. If you come to this part, bring a lunch.
There is no Restroom at Stillwater Wildlife Area. Use one in Duval or Carnation before arriving.
Meet at 7:30 AM at the parking lot for the Stillwater Wildlife area that is a quarter-mile west of the Stillwater Store along SR 203.
