Sea Kayak - Lake Washington: Seward Park

F.L.O.W. Fun Learning On the Water. Join your peers, Intermediate students, to simulate rough water conditions and practice low/high brace, sculling & balance brace. This is not a class. Come share what works for you and try new ways that work for others.

Meet at Seward Park South end parking lot at 6 pm. Drop your boat there, park on the street if lot is full.

Launch at 6:30 pm. Warm up by sprinting to a local park across the water. Try new tips to improve your forward stroke if you don't want to paddle behind everybody else.

Required Equipment

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally

Bring a diving mask or googles, bring a retainer leash for your glasses. Wear ear/nose plugs if necessary.

Protect your hands with gloves/mittens and your feet with water shoes/neoprene booties.

Don't forget a water bottle and sunscreen!
