Sea Kayak - Point Defiance Park

Trip

Sea Kayak - Point Defiance Park

Play around Point Defiance on a fine Saturday morning. Paddle and learn things too! It's a "Saturated Saturday"!

  • Sea Kayak III+
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.0 mi

Meet at Own Beach in Point Defiance park with enough time to be ready to paddle at 8:45.  We'll have a short huddle and then launch at 9.  Please be on time so we have plenty of time to practice and teach and learn things  as the max ebb builds to 2.8 knots at 10:30.  I always need at least an hour to get ready.

The primary objective of this short morning paddle is to go and play in the in ebb current around Point Defiance.  2.8 knots is sporty enough!

This is not a formal clinic, but the secondary object will be to teach you things (because I like teaching and I need the practice)!  I'd like the theme of the learning to center around self and assisted rescues and to apply these skills in conditions around the point.  We can also focus on group cohesion, reading the water, and paddling in current.  If you are ready to practice rescues in moving water and you are ready to learn some stuff, please write me for permission!!

I plan to be off the water by 1.

Drysuits and helmets required.
