Details will be sent out to those attending at a date closer to the event. Tentatively plan to meet in the parking lot at Olympic National Forest Supervisor's Office (1835 Black Lake Blvd SW, Olympia, WA 98512) for introductions, quick pre-trip debrief and caravaning. For those not able to meet at the designated time, please email me that you will be driving separately and meeting us at Cape Disappointment State Park (our designated tent sites.)
This is a family car camping adventure at the beach as part of the Youth Outreach Committee. We have 3 tent sites reserved at Cape Disappointment for the weekend of June 7-9. The plan is to leave Friday afternoon before school gets out to beat the traffic (Olympia has a half day of school that day). We'll set up camp, go for an afternoon/evening beach hike to North Head Lighthouse. Evening we will have a campfire dinner and do fun games.
Saturday: After breakfast we will do a hike at Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, visiting the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, and go through Fort Canby. This will be followed by a trip to town at Long Beach where we will have lunch, fly kites on the beach, build sandcastles, go through the weird Marsh's Free Museum and of course have ice cream! For those that want there is an optional afternoon hike (short) at Leadbetter Point State Park which is great for birdwatching. Late afternoon and evening activities will be similar to Friday's schedule.
Note: The Mountaineers already paid the fees to reserve the tent sites at Cape Disappointment State Park so families will need to bring cash to reimburse us (total cost will be divided among the number of families).
