These after work city hikes start at 6 pm and end about 2 hours later, close to 8:30pm. This up-and-down walk is a slight variation on Walk #10, East Queen Anne, in Jake & Cathy Jaramillo's 2013 Seattle Stairway Walks, Mountaineers Books. The guide calls for 3.7 miles but we'll do ~4.2 miles. Metro Transit Bus Route 40 provides excellent service.
Our route takes us west up the linked Galer Stairs from Lake Union near the highest elevation past Old Queen Anne HS. We return heading north through the neighborhood to take the Crocket St Stairs down to Westlake Ave. Good tread on your shoes will be important
Total steps up/down ~730 (but not all at once). .
Dress for the weather and the evening. It will be dark and some travel is on city streets, so headlamps are required and reflective clothing is advised. Walkers need to be fully Vaxed to participate. As we're outside, masks are optional.
Meet shortly before 6pm ready to walk at the foot of the Galer Stairs pedestrian overpass crossing of Westlake Avenue. We'll be on the east side of Westlake where there is abundant free, well-lit parking.
