This flat, crushed-gravel trail is easy to walk along and open for recreation all year. It is wide and level. Bikes, walkers, joggers, and those with baby strollers can all enjoy this trail. However, the Coal Mines Trail is not truly handicapped-accessible, because the surface is not paved. In addition to the interesting mining sites the trail passes, autumn brings fall colors to the trail. In winter months, pedestrians are joined by snowmobilers, snowshoers, and cross-country skiers, conditions permitting.
