Deception Pass
Sea kayaking at Deception Pass near Anacortes offers strong tidal current flows making it a classic spot for refining current skills. Test your skills with boils, whirlpools, and a possible venture into the Room of Doom.
getting there
From Seattle, follow I-5 N to WA-20 W/Avon Cutoff in Burlington. Take exit 230 from I-5 N. Follow WA-20 for about 15 miles and follow signs for Deception Pass State Park.

- Use the Bowman Bay boat launch to access the pass for current play on an ebb.
- Use the boat launch at Cornet Bay to access the pass in a flood cycle.
on the water
Although passage can be made with careful timing at slack, most excursions to the pass should be made with full preparation for challenging conditions. The main pass on the south experiences higher boat traffic. Canoe pass on the north is the site of more kayak activity.
