On the Water
The Dungeness Spit lies on the Strait of Juan de Fuca just north of the city of Sequim. The main portion of the spit is five miles long ending nearly two and half miles from the nearest shore. The route takes you around Cline Spit and Graveyard Spit in the protected waters of Dungeness Bay. This is all part of the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge which is used by a number of birds for nesting, a migratory stop over, or winter foraging. The lighthouse is serviced year around by volunteer "Keepers" from the non-profit New Dungeness Light Station Association (newdungenesslighthouse.com). The Dungeness bay is a popular spot for harvesting the infamous Dungeness crab.
