on the trail
Ride Forest Roads 9705 and 9712 climbing to the Haney Meadow area. Along the route and at Diamond Head, the high point of the route, there are great views of the Enchantment Peaks. Camp in the Haney Meadows area. A great camping option is the Ken Wilcox Horse Camp (water available at the creek) and many other dispersed camping options possible.
This trip can be done as round trip following the same route back (only 500 feet of gain on the return) or as a loop following Forest Road 9716 8 miles down to US-97 which can also be used as a shorter approach to the area. The loop option is 36 miles with 4,600 feet of elevation gain including 8 miles on US-97.
