Iron Bear (winter)
Iron Bear, Point 5489, is on the divide between the headwaters of Iron Creek below Blewett Pass and Bear Creek in the Teanaway. It offers a winter scramble accessible by Forest Road 9714 all winter in an area often protected from winter storms.
getting there
Drive to the winter parking area and Iron Creek Trailhead on SR-97 18.8 miles north of I-90 Exit 85 in Cle Elum and 5.7 miles south of Blewett Pass (3,000 ft).
approach & ascent
It is simplest to approach by going straight up the Iron Creek road (Forest Road 9714). Given energy and time a more circuitous route back by way of Teanaway Ridge and its spurs is possible.
