Johns River State Wildlife Area & Bottle Beach State Park

A 2-mile level walk at the Johns River Estuary and 2 miles along Bottle Beach. Many birds and the resident elk herd may be viewed at the wildlife area, and remnants of a historic sight are visible from Bottle Beach.

getting there

Drive SR-105 to 11.6 miles west of Aberdeen and turn east onto Johns River Road. In 0.1 mile turn left onto Game Farm Road and then in another 0.1 mile, right into the parking area (20 ft).

Bottle Beach State Park, a good trip addition, is another 2 miles west on SR 105.

on the trail

Johns River’s 1,500 acres are easily accessible along the first 0.6 mile paved (and wheelchair-accessible) trail. Then the trail becomes grassy and follows a dike, reaching the edge of the forest at 1 mile.  Resident birds are nearly always observable, along with the resident elk herd.

Bottle Beach at low tide offers an amazing beach walk with remnants of “Ocosta” the would-be main port in the area. There is also a 0.7-mile wheelchair-accessible trail with three viewing platforms along the Grays Harbor tideflats.
