Little River Trail
A nice river walk that ascends into Olympic National Park, or a challenging winter scramble of Griff Peak.
getting there
Take the Pine St cutoff off of US-101 in Port Angeles to head south on Pine St which becomes Black Diamond Rd. In 4.5 miles, turn left onto Little River Rd and drive 0.1 mile to the trailhead (1,050 ft).
on the trail
Little River Trail
7 miles round trip, 800 feet of elevation gain
Follow the trail as far as you like. While the trail eventually reaches the Hurricane Ridge Trail, most will turn around long before this, usually ~3.5 miles from the trailhead.
scramble route
Griff Peak (5,120 ft)
11 miles round trip, 5,000 feet of elevation gain, difficulty: Winter Scramble
Follow the Little River Trail to about 2,900 ft, then ascend roughly west towards the summit, eventually gain the southeast ridge of Griff. The last mile gains about 2,000 feet and reportedly has brush and fallen trees (hopefully covered up by snow in winter and early spring).
