Lookout Mountain (Methow Valley)
Snowshoe to viewpoint overlooking the Twisp and Methow River valleys and the Sawtooth Range. It's 8 miles round trip with 3,100 feet of elevation gain.
getting there
From SR-20 at the east end of Twisp, drive south on SR-153. One mile past Carlton, turn right onto Libby Creek Road (Forest Road 1049). In 2.5 miles take the right fork and in another 1.1 miles, take the left fork onto Forest Road 1046. Continue 0.5 mile to the parking area near Forest Road 200 (2,360 ft).
snowshoe route
Start on the Elderberry Canyon road off Libby Creek and snowshoe to the lookout on Lookout Mountain, following the road for the first 1.5 mile and 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Then follow the road and go cross-country for the best (or most desired) route.
