Hilly, oak and grasslands area with various easy to moderate hiking trails adjacent to the Columbia River in Oregon.
Getting there
Drive east on I-84 from Portland to 11 miles west of The Dalles. There is direct westbound access through the rest stop. For eastbound access take Exit 76 and then backtrack.
about the park
Memaloose means "island of the dead," in honor of the two nearby islands in the Columbia River that are sacred Native American burial grounds. The park has some exhibit information and is an excellent spot for photography, picnicking, and camping. Camping is open mid March through October.
