Mount Henderson/Southwest Ridge
A strenuous 10 mile, 5,200 feet elevation gain scramble. The route will provide amazing views of the Sawtooth Ridge and Mount Cruiser as well as the spectacular peaks of the Olympic National Park.
Getting There
From US Highway 101 at Hoodsport, turn west on Lake Cushman Rd/SR 119 N and proceed for 9.2 miles to a T intersection (Forest Road 24/SR 119). Turn left (west) onto Forest Road 24 and continue 6.5 miles along the north shore of Lake Cushman to the Staircase Ranger Station and the overnight parking lot.
Approach & ascent
Begin at the North Fork Skokomish River trail (815 ft). At about 3.4 miles (1,485 ft.), leave Skokomish River Trail and begin ascending the Flapjack Lakes Trail for 4.4 miles, 3,040 feet elevation gain to Black and White Lakes.
From the lakes ascend toward Point 5379 then traverse above and west of Murdock Lakes until the southwest ridge of Mount Henderson can be gained. Follow the ridge on or near the crest to the summit.
The time from Black and White Lakes to the summit is 4-5 hours.
