Florence Peak (winter)
Florence Peak in winter is a strenuous but straightforward trip, mainly on trail, with 3,760 feet of elevation gain in just 4 miles. It is in the Carbon River area of Mount Rainier National Park, with the off-trail portion following the open ridge line of Alki Crest.
ASCENT ROUTE
From the Carbon River Road gate by the rest rooms take the nature trail counterclockwise till you pick up the Boundary Trail marked "Trail Not Maintained". The trail heads generally south following the boundary of the Park. Hike till you reach a saddle at 4,700 ft. Leave the trail here, heading south-southeast up the ridge. Follow the ridge top till you top out on a false summit with excellent views.
Most parties settle for the south summit, due to exposure on the traverse to the north summit.
