Howard Peak & Tolmie Peak
A moderate/easy scramble of Howard Peak and Tolmie Peak in Rainier National Park.
getting there
Drive I-5 south to exit 149 to SR 516. Follow 516 east to SR 167 (Valley Freeway). Go S to SR 410 near Sumner and follow signs through Bonnie Lake and Buckley. Pick up SR 165 to Wilkeson and Carbonado. Road will fork, well signed (left to Ipsut, right to Mowich). Take right fork. Mileage from Buckley to MRNP boundary is 23 miles. Mowich Lake is 5 miles east of park boundary.
approach & ascent
Hike the Eunice Lake trail to Eunice Lake and beyond about 1 mile to the Tolmie Peak Lookout. Follow the ridge crest to the Tolmie Peak summit about 500 to 600 feet to the east.
For Howard before reaching the lookout head to saddle south of Howard, then follow the ridge north to Howard.
