Sheep Lake & Nannie Ridge
In this area of the Goat Rocks Wilderness are 21-mile loop, 14-mile loop and9-mile out-and-back hike options all with about with ~2,000 feet of elevation gain. Hike up from Walupt Lake through verdant meadows, skirting the base of Nannie Peak where a side trail leads to the top of Nannie Peak. Continue on to reach Sheep Lake and the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Both loops follow the PCT for a shorter or longer loop return to Walupt Lake.
getting there
Drive US-12 to 3 miles south of Packwood,and turn east onto Forest Road 21. Drive 15.9 miles, turn left onto Forest Road 2160, and drive 4.6 miles, taking the left fork for Horseshoe Lake and following the signs to Walupt Lake parking lots and trailhead (4,000 ft).

9 miles round trip, 1,800 feet of elevation gain, 5,800 ft high point
Hike 2.4 miles to 5,850 ft on the Nannie Ridge Trail, skirt around the south and east side of Nannie Peak, continue 2.2 miles to Sheep Lake and return by the same route. A side trip to Nannie Peak (6,106 ft) on the way out or back adds ~1 mile and 300 feet of elevation gain to the trip.
Walupt Lake-Pacific Crest Trail-Nannie Ridge Loop
14-mile loop, 2,000 feet of elevation gain, 5,800 ft high point
Hike east along Walupt Lake 4.7 miles to the Pacific Crest Trail (5,000 ft) and turn left (north). Hike 4.8 miles to Sheep Lake (5,800 ft) and the intersection with the Nannie Ridge Trail. Turn left and hike 2.2 miles to Nannie Ridge. An optional ~0.50-mile trail with 300 feet of elevation gain leads to the top of Nannie Peak (6,106 ft). Hike southwest 2.4 miles to Walupt Lake.
Nannie Ridge-Pacific Crest Trail-Coleman Weedpatch Loop
21-mile loop, 2,500 feet of elevation gain, 5,800 ft high point
Start this loop at Walupt Lake or the Coleman Weedpatch Trailhead ~2 miles west of Walup Lake. Hike the loop in either direction. If hiked clockwise from Walupt lake, hike up Nannie Ridge to Sheep Lake (5,800 ft), south and then west on the Pacific Crest Trail, and the west on the Coleman Weedpatch Trail back to Walupt Lake.
