Peak 7552
Easy scrambling with 13 miles round trip and and 2,800 feet of elevation gain to a fine viewpoint northwest of Cutthroat Pass. This is a particularly lovely trip in the fall when the larches have turned a brilliant gold.
getting there
Drive SR-20 to Rainy Pass and park in the lot on the north side of the highway ( ft).
approach & ascent
Hike the Pacific Crest Trail for 5 miles to Cutthroat Pass (6,800 ft), gaining about 2,000 feet. From there travel northwest towards the 7,552-foot peak's summit. It's more of an off-trail hike than a scramble. Enjoy excellent views from the summit that include Tower and Golden Horn across the valley of Swamp Creek.
notes
- This peak doesn't seem to be visited very often, so care should be taken not to create a use trail. Keep your group size small and spread out when hiking through meadows.
