Picture Lake Loop
A short loop hike around the lake that is ideal for photographing sunrises and sunsets and Mount Shuksan's reflection in it. This small lake often has grey jays and other northwest birds, as well as huckleberries in the fall.
getting there
Drive SR 542 east to to the Glacier Public Service Center (Ranger Station) and continue ~23 miles to the Mount Baker Ski Area. At the junction in front of The Firs Chalet, turn right onto the one-way loop road. The parking lot for the The Mountaineers Baker Lodge is on the right side of the road about a third of a mile beyond The Firs Chalet. Or continue to the upper parking lot for the ski area (4,250 ft).
on the trail
Follow the 0.5-mile, ADA-accessible path around Picture Lake, home to one of the most photographed vistas in America. Featuring a backdrop of craggy Mount Shuksan and a foreground of wildflowers ringing a sparkling lake in summer, Picture Lake is great for taking pictures, hence its name. Interpretive signs are posted along the trail, so hikers can enjoy a little education along with their walk.
