Seattle's P-Patches

About the P-Patches

In 1973, people in Seattle started its first community garden at Picardo Farm, calling it a P-Patch after the family that provided the land. It was created to grow food for food banks and for the gardeners who worked the plots.   There are 89 P-Patches throughout the city, some covering several acres, and others quite small, and a couple of Market Gardens that have farm stands.

On the Trail

A series of 12 walking routes, 5-10 miles each, that visit all of Seattle's P-Patches, a few incidental community gardens, and one urban farm. 

Wedgewood to Magnuson Park

7.6 miles one-way, 360 feet of elevation gain

Visit the Picardo, Roosevelt, Shiga's Garden, University Heights, Ravenna, UW Farm (the urban farm, not a P-Patch), Burke Gilman Gardens, and Magnuson P-Patches. Routes & Places where there may be overlap: Ravenna, Center for Urban Horticulture, and  Magnuson Park.

U-District to Madison Valley

7.2 miles one-way, 610 feet of elevation gain

Visit the University District, Eastlake, Cascade, Unpaving Paradise, Thomas St Gardens, Broadway Hill, Republican, Pelican Tea Garden, Ida Mia Garden, and Madison Valley P-Patches. Routes & Places where there may be overlap: none.

Central District to I-90

5.9 miles one-way, 520 feet of elevation gain

Visit the Hawkins, Spring St, Immaculate, Squire Park, Horiuchi Park, Hoa Mai, Yes farm, Danny Woo Gardens, Climbing Water, and Judkins P-Patches. Routes & Places where there may be overlap: Central District.

Mount Baker to Hillman City

6.9 miles one-way, 430 feet of elevation gain

Visit the Bradner Gardens, Colman Park, Hillside Garden, Estelle Street, Courtland Place, RV (Rainier Vista) Dakota West, RV Snoqualmie Garden, Brandon Street Orchard, Hillman City, Angel Morgan P-Patches. Routes and Places where there may be overlap: Mount Baker Neighborhood.

Beacon Hill

7.9 miles one-way, 620 feet of elevation gain

Visit the Leo Street, Thistle, NH (New Holly) Rockery, NH Power Garden, John C. Little Garden, NH Youth and Family, NH 29th Ave Garden, NH Lucky Garden, Maa Nyei Ndiec (My Mother's Garden), Snoqualmie, and Beacon Food Forest P-Patches. Routes & Places where there may be overlap: North Beacon Hill, Dr. Jose Rizal Park.

South Park to Jefferson Park

5.1 miles one-way, 50 feet of elevation gain

Visit the Beacon Food Forest, Snoqualmie, Oxbow, and Marra Farm P-Patches.  Routes & Places where there may be overlap: Jefferson Park (Beacon Hill).

West Seattle

8.4 miles one-way, 600 feet of elevation gain

Visit the Westcrest Garden, Longfellow Creek, Barton Street, Solstice, HP (High Point) Commons Garden, HP Juneau and Market Gardens, HP MacArthur Lane Park Garden, Delridge, and West Genesee Garden P-Patches.   Routes & Places where there may be overlap: West Seattle.

Downtown, Queen Anne & Magnolia

5.1 miles one-way, 780 feet of elevation gain

Visit the Belltown, UpGarden, Queen Pea, Queen Anne, Interbay, and Magnolia Manor P-Patches. Routes & Places where there may be overlap: Downtown, Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, and Magnolia.

Ballard,  Fremont & Wallingford

5.4 miles one-way, 430feet of elevation gain

Visit the Thyme Park, Greg's Garden, Hazel Heights, Troll's Knoll, Fremont, and Good Shepherd P-Patches. Routes & Places where there may be overlap: Ballard, Phinney Ridge, and Fremont.

Green Lake, Blue Ridge & Greenwood

7.5 miles one-way,560 feet of elevation gain

Visit the Linden Orchard, Phinney Ridge, Kirke Park, Ballard, Greenwood, Greenwood Station, and Evanston P-Patches. Routes & Places where there may be overlap: Green Lake, Greenwood.

Bitter Lake to Lake City

4 miles one-way, 140 Feet of elevation gain

Visit the Bitter Lake, Haller Lake, Jackson Park, and Lake City Court Garden P-Patches. Routes & Places where there may be overlap: none.

Northgate to Wedgewood

6 Miles one-way, 350 Feet of elevation Gain

Visit the  Pinehurst, Maple Leaf, Licton Springs, and Picardo Farm P-Patches. Routes & Places where there may be overlap: none.
