Theler Wetlands & Twanoh State Park
Eight miles apart on the south shore of Hood Canal near Belfair, these two area provide great opportunities for easy hiking and exploring nature.

Mary E Theler Wetlands
Hike four interpretive walking trails covering two miles within 139 acres of protected salt marsh and estuary wetlands at the mouth of the Union River in Belfair. The Mary E Theler Wetlands protects plants, birds and animals in natural habitats including forests, wetlands, saltwater and freshwater marshes, swamps, bogs and river estuaries. It's 3.5 miles round trip with 50 feet of elevation gain.
Twanoh State Park
Enjoy a pretty woodland hike along a creek, through a ravine and old growth forest. It's 2.3 miles round trip with 375 feet elevation gain. A Discover Pass is required for Twanoh State Park.

The Mountaineers has a commercial use permit with Washington State Parks for all free and fee-based outings at state parks. Leaders should carry a print or digital copy of our commercial use permit to show rangers they may encounter.
