Maury Island is a peninsula on the southeastern end of Vashon Island, connected by a small neck of land, called appropriately "Portage." Circumnavigation of the "island" does, in fact, involve a portage. The portage is between one and two tenths of a mile depending on tide height. Wheels may be useful for the paved part.
