Willapa Bay & Long Island
Circumnavigate this gem of an island in Willapa Bay. This 15 nautical mile paddle can be done in a day or a weekend with great camping opportunities. However, you must watch the tides, as very large areas dry at lower tides.
Launch Points
- Boat ramp at the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge visitor center near the south end of the island.
On the Water
Circumnavigate the island in either direction. There are five primitive campsites around the island with a limit of five people per site. Some sites can be very difficult to reach at lower tides because of mud. In the summer the water can be quite warm because of the very shallow bay. There is some hiking on the island and elk may be spotted.
Notes
- Exposed mud and sand banks are very extensive at lower tides, so planning the paddle around the tidal cycle is very important.
