Wonderland Trail: Longmire to Westside Road

Getting There

Longmire

From Puyallup drive south on SR-161 and turn left (east) onto  SR-7 (National Park Highway). Stay on the National Park Highway when it becomes SR-706 and through the Nisqually Entrance of Mount Rainier National Park. Proceed up the road to the Longmire Ranger Station and Lodge. Park behind lodge (2,770 ft).

Westside Road

Drive east on SR 7 (National Park Highway), continuing east when it becomes SR 706. Enter Mount Rainier National Park and one mile from the entrance, turn left (north) on Westside Road. Drive 3.2 miles to the trailhead (2,900 ft). Note that the trailhead on Westside Road may change from year-to-year, depending on the road's condition.

On the Trail

Suggested One-way Itinerary

Day 1:  Park cars at both trailheads. Hike from Longmire to Devils Dream. It's 5.4 miles and 2,866 feet of elevation gain with a 4,993 ft high point.
Day 2:  Hike from Devils Dream to South Puyallup River. It's 6.6 miles and 2,230 feet of elevation gain with a 5,633 ft high point.
Day 3:  Hike from South Puyallup to Westside Road. It's 5.5 miles and 719 feet of elevation gain with a 4,082 ft high point.

Notes

• Reserve campsites through recreation.gov.
• It's possible to hike further on the Wonderland Trail which requires walking Westside Road back to the cars.
