The trail was in excellent condition with no obstacles. A few patches of soft snow above 5500' but no traction devices were needed. The snow is melting fast! Upper Crystal Lake was high with water and mush along parts of the east side trail. We were able to get around it on remaining snow a bit higher. Much of the boot-path going up from the lake had running water in it and thin snow bridges. No snow at all on the slopes up to the ridge leading to Silver King. But some snow still held on along some stretches of the ridge. The plateau below the summit had a good amount of snow that was easy to walk on, and again no snow up to or on the summit.
I had a great team and we enjoyed some good navigation practice with compass bearings and GPS. Everyone pitched in and watched out for each other. We laughed and talked together and marveled at the beauty surrounding us! My trip stats show 8.5 miles rt and 3,500' gain. Total moving time was 5 hrs/21 minutes. In a nutshell, a great day out!
